As Executive Director and founder of Last Chance Animal Rescue, Inc., I have worked with Dr. Trevor Ashley for more than 10 years. We have adoptable animals in adoption centers close to his practice and many of our adopters use him as their veterinarian. He treats our adopter’s pets with great care and skill at a reasonable cost. He also understands shelter medicine and the lives the pets have likely had before coming to a rescue program. He is easy to talk to and is able to educate clients about wellness, preventative medicine and rescue animals.
I have found him to be honest and trustworthy. He is not a vet that will run up a large bill with unnecessary tests. He is a rescue advocate and understands the need for a positive mutually beneficial relationship between the veterinarians, new adopters and rescue organizations.
Whenever I have an adopter in his area, I always recommend that they bring their new pet to his full-service vet practice. He is a valuable partner for our rescue, other rescues and shelters and pet owners alike.

My pets have been under Dr. Ashley’s care since 2008, when I was on a team of greyhound adoption educators conducting meet-and-greets inside PetSmart. As the new chief-of-staff he made a point to immediately get to know us and the pets we brought with us as AmbassaDogs. I was impressed by the depth of his knowledge (greyhounds have different lab values and medication requirements than other dogs, and not all vets know this) and by his caring demeanor. I ended up switching my animals into his practice, as I had not yet found a vet with whom I was truly happy.
I’ve been totally satisfied with his care for my animals and the fact that he respects my wishes when it comes to end-of-life issues for them, but is still able to advocate for them when I think things are hopeless and he feels otherwise. This speaks to both his clinical judgement and his communication and interpersonal skills.
One of the things that has always impressed me about his practice is the attention to detail from both Dr. Ashley himself and his staff. Every time one of my dogs visited his practice, I would receive a follow-up call the next day from a staff member checking to make sure the animal was okay and had no reactions to vaccinations or issues of any kind after the visit. When Dr. Ashley had to refer my pet out to a specialist for surgery, he kept track of what was going on and personally called me the day after the other doctor did the surgery to ask how things were going and encourage me to call him with any questions or problems.
Despite the fact that Dr. Ashley’s new practice will be a longer distance for me to travel, there is simply no question – I will be keeping my animals under his care at his new practice, Lake Shore Pet Hospital.
