Your pet is a big part of your life, of your family. Just as you would with other members of your family, you want to make sure your pet’s teeth are clean and healthy. Despite this, it’s not as intuitive keeping an animal’s mouth healthy, and many pet owners aren’t sure how to go about it. Well, that’s what we’re for. Here at Lake Shore Pet Hospital, keeping your animals teeth, gums and mouth healthy is our primary goal.
Some are unsure about whether or not oral care is even necessary for dogs and cats. They live much shorter lives than we do, after all, so shouldn’t their teeth be able to last without pet dental care? Unfortunately, poor oral health in pets is associated with a number of other problems, such as heart disease. Just as with people, the correlation between poor dental health and inflammatory problems in the rest of the body is also strong.
But there are other important reasons to keep pets’ mouths healthy. Otherwise, pets may lose teeth, have consistently bad breath, experience pain, refuse to eat, drool or bleed, and generally live a far less happy and comfortable life.
When you bring your pet into our Pasadena animal hospital for a pet dental checkup, we will provide a number of routine services. First we will check your pet's teeth, inspecting them for breakages, plaque and tartar. We will also seek out abscessed or infected teeth, problems with jaw or palate, and misalignment of the teeth or the bite.
We will take note of which teeth need to be cleaned, and remove buildup to reduce the chances of serious disease. We usually recommend a dental cleaning at least once a year, perhaps more often if the pet has serious oral health issues. At this time we will take care of any loose or broken teeth that might need to be removed. Frequently your pet will need anesthesia, which we provide safely and professionally to minimize your pain’s stress and discomfort during the procedure.
As with everything else we do, we will completely customize your pet’s dental health plan to their needs and your budget. We never require unnecessary services or try to up-sell you like other clinics might. Instead, we do exactly what’s needed and no more.
