Many people who are traveling during the holiday season this year are planning to take their pets with them. When you consider your companion animal to be part of the family, it makes sense to bring him or her along too. But before you get underway, the team at Lake Shore Pet Hospital, your preferred animal hospital in Pasadena MD, would like to offer some advice on pet travel safety.
It almost goes without saying, but take your vehicle in for a holiday travel inspection before you go on the road. Your veterinarian in Pasadena reminds you that you don’t want to get stalled in the bitter cold, waiting for a tow truck while your poor animal struggles to stay warm.
It’s a good idea to bring your beloved pet in to see the vet at least once a year for a pet care wellness check. If you’ve never taken your animal on the road before, now would be a good time to make a vet appointment. An MD veterinarian in our office will clear your pet for travel or recommend a treatment plan.
Get Your Pet Microchipped
If your pet somehow gets lost or escapes while you’re traveling, you’ll be glad that you had them protected with an embedded microchip that stores your contact information. When someone finds your pet, he or she can bring it to a vet for scanning and then reunite you. If you already have microchipped your pet but have moved since having the procedure done, ask your vet to update the details on the chip.
List Special Requirements
Make a list of all medications and special food requirements for your pet. Bring backup food and medicine so you won’t run out of provisions while on the road.
Any pet care program will have to include provisions for pet travel safety too since so many people’s animals will eventually go on a family trip. For more helpful pet care tips or to make an appointment, please contact Lake Shore Pet Hospital in Pasadena MD today. Remember to ask about our offer of a free consultation for new patients!
